Tonglen Intensive, August Class #2
This is the second session of the 2-part intensive. You must register for the 2-session series. This 2-session online intensive offers a deep-dive into the active compassion practice of Tonglen. Tonglen is an ancient, imagery-based meditation practice that exercises your willingness to do something for somebody who needs help (including yourself). Our immersion into Tonglen deconstructs the practice and demystifies it, with an eye toward envisioning what is possible when we learn to stay with whatever arises in life.

Life is difficult always, but during pandemic our hearts are stretched to their limits by opposites — from the enormity of suffering to the glory of heroic kindness. On top of this, we have great uncertainty about what lies ahead.
In this 90-min virtual session, we will explore how the common humanity of shared grief and the cultivation of self-care can sustain you in these times of massive change in our lives and world. We will work with meditation, discussion and experiential exercises to explore how softening our hearts to our own pain and the pain of others can make us individually and collectively stronger than ever.

Dharma Talk: "The Healing Power of Compassion"
Compassion arises when we are confronted with suffering (in ourselves or others) and feel motivated to help end it. How do we explain the paradoxical truth that opening one’s heart to suffering helps us find happiness and peace? Join Erika Rosenberg, Ph.D. for a discussion of the nature of compassion, how we can grow our own compassion, and the ways in which compassionate connection can heal people, communities, and our planet.
